Our Day Trip to Shedd Aquarium

We decided to take a day trip into Chicago to visit the Shedd Aquarium and see their new show Fantasea. We went with Kaila's good buddy, Morgan, and our friends, Amy and Travis. It was a lot of fun for the girls. Kaila loved looking at all the fishes, dolphins, whales, and penguins.

Showing Kaila the tidepool...
Unsure of whether to get her hands wet...
Trying to persuade her to touch it, but to no avail...

Happy Valentine's Day!

The girls would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day!
Kaila wanting to hold Kenna's hand...
Solo shot of Kenna since Kaila was being a busy toddler and was done with the camera...

Kenna and the bumbo...

We are trying to find new ways for Kenna to entertain herself and practice strengthening her muscles. As you can see, at first she was not liking the bumbo so much. Then I figured out it was because she either wanted her pacifier or her fingers.

Miss mushy face...

She loves the pacifier, but prefers her fingers...

Learning her animals and sounds by kicking...

Sadie got stickered...

We were shocked to see Sadie run downstairs with stickers all over her and surprised that she actually allowed Kaila to do this. It is so neat to watch them play together because Kaila treats her as if she is an actual playmate and many times Sadie will play along...it's too cute to watch!

Give a toddler some stickers and she uses the dog as her medium.

The Special Super Bowl Sunday

February 7, 2010 was a big day....big, big day. At around 9pm, the events of the day could make it bigger than Christmas, New Year's, and Mardi Gras combined. For the first time in the 43-year history of the franchise, the New Orleans Saints were playing in the Super Bowl. Did we have a Super Bowl party for the occasion? No, too big of a game. I have a real hard time watching regular season games with others around, let alone the game have the magnitude of the Super Bowl.

Still doesn't mean we couldn't celebrate. After going to church at 8am (to pray for the Saints), the pre-game shows on TV started. We started preparing our food early, since with two youngsters, things take a lot longer for us to complete, compared to others. Kaui made a delicious bean dip. I made some beignets in the morning. During the cooking process, we had the pre-game shows on TV and Saints music blasting on the iPod stereo, from "When the Saints Go Marching In," to "Stand Up and Get Crunk," to rap/jazz renditions of "Who Dat!" Below are the pics of the beignet process:

Ready to be fried!
In the afternoon, we made some jambalaya. Once it was all done, we set out the food on our Saints plates and napkins.Obviously, the entire game was nerve-racking. I couldn't sit down; I stood for about 90% of the game. It benefited Kenna, since when she's being carried, she doesn't like sitting still; she likes to be moving around. So I kind of killed 2 birds with 1 stone.

We all know how the game unfolded. Kaui was smart and sly enough to have a camera in hand to catch any moments. Here, she got my reaction to when Tracy Porter went pick-6 to pretty much seal the win; she had a quick trigger-finger on the camera (she has some photography skills!). Note Kaila's reaction in the background, behind my right arm. HaHa!

Game, set, match. THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS ARE THE SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS!

Kaila's reaction to the win. We got her to say "Who Dat!" throughout the day, and she likes to dance to the "Halftime/Stand Up and Get Crunk" song. But, she has her teams mixed up because she'll also cheer, "I-D-A-H-O, IDAHO IDAHO GO GO GO!"

To those that know me best know how long our family has been waiting for this. All the years we lived in New Orleans, we watched the Saints first-hand underachieve, lose on a regular basis, and be plagued with bad luck. But now, after 29-years of waiting, I finally saw my dream come true: the Saints won a Super Bowl. When Drew Brees knelt on the ball with only seconds left in the game, I was overcome with emotions, so happy that this time has finally come. So happy for the team, the people in my birthplace, and so happy for all my family. And Kaui captured my moment:

Kaila came up to me and asked, "Daddy, what's wrong? You OK?" It was funny when she asked. I then had to explain to her why I was crying and that it was happy tears. Her reaction: "OK," and continued playing.

Finally, finally, finally. A few days removed and it still feels surreal. Starting to sink in that the words "Saints" and "Super Bowl Champs" are being used in the same sentence. What an unforgettable night for our entire family.

WHO DAT! WHO DAT! WHO DAT SAY DEY GONNA BEAT DEM SAINTS!!

Watching Nemo...

Kaila was watching Nemo the other day and wanted her sissy to watch Nemo with her. It was a photo op I couldn't miss. What a precious moment it was.

Fairy in training...

Kaila received a few dresses from Cisco's colleague, Vicky, and we have been trying to get her to wear them, but she always preferred to admire them from afar (which is surprising because she LOVES princesses and fairies). To our surprise, she actually asked to put this one on one day and had it on long enough for me to snap a shot!

Kenna is 2 months old!

Can you believe it? Kenna is already 2 months old! Time is definitely going by faster this time around than it did when we had Kaila.

At Kenna's 2 month check-up she weighed 10 lbs. 11 oz. and is 22 1/2 inches long, which makes her 50% heavier and 75% taller than girls her age.

Let's see...some of Kenna's favorite past times are eating, smiling, eating, cooing, eating, sucking her fingers, eating, kickboxing (Miss Manny Pacquiao), and did I mention eating. Oh and she does get a nap in there every now and then. Sleeping through the night is definitely one of our favorite things that she does, besides the smiling and cooing. And we are still working on lifting that pretty face up :)

Kaila loves taking pictures with her sissy...

The hospital is not the place for a 1 month old :(

As some of you may have heard, about a week ago, Kenna was admitted to the hospital for 4 days with pneumonia. Luckily for us, she pulled through it just fine and has made a full recovery. We thank God and everyone out there, immensely, for helping us and her get through such a scary time.
All hooked up

And she smiled through it all...

Kenna's favorite past time...

Here Kenna practices tummy time under her play gym while Kaila encourages her to "lift your head up sissy!"

Photos by Lindsey...

Here are some professional pictures we took when Kenna was 2 weeks old and Kaila was a month from turning 2. Lindsey Kuntzi was our photographer and we think she did an amazing job considering she only used natural light and no flash.

And no, it is not your imagination. Kenna was born with quite a bit of hair, as you can tell, both on her head and on her body (you can see it all over her shoulders and arm). I'm sure she'll really appreciate these pictures when she gets older ;)

Grandma Aiyeese's Visit...

While I went down to New Orleans for the NFC Championship Game, my mom was nice enough to take time off of work to fly over and help Kaui with the two girls (3 with Sadie). Here are a few pictures of her visit.
