Yee-Haw! Ride 'em Cowboy!!

Ever since Kaila saw "Toy Story" for the first time several months ago, she's been wanting to be like Woody and Jesse and ride a horse like a cowboy, well cowgirl. So, now she always runs around the house yelling, "Yee-Haw!! Ride 'em cowboy!" Well, it just so happens that one of my colleagues, Tommy Aicher, and his wife Kate have a horse. They were very open to the idea of having us visit their horse, Ruby, and take a ride with her.

So with us having such beautiful weather, and having Shannon here to visit for a few days, we thought it would be a perfect day to visit Tommy, Kate, and Ruby. In fact, Shannon and Kate are both vet students, in the same year, but at different schools (Shannon at Colorado State and Kate at Texas A&M). So they had some time to talk about their vet school experience. It was so much fun! Tommy and Kate were great hosts and Ruby was super cooperative.

Before the ride, we had to make Ruby happy by giving her some treats. Kate is showing Kaila how to give Ruby apples (note Kaila's light-up Disney Princess cowboy boots in the pictures. Perfect for this occasion).
Yummy apples!
Tommy showed Kaila how to brush Ruby's mane.
Helmet's on, ready to ride!

Kaui's turn:
Kaila riding again, but this time with Mommy

One last ride for Kaila with Daddy. I showed off my inner-cowboy (which is equivalent to one strand of my leg hair)

It was a great morning. Thank you so much to the Aichers for taking time out of their holiday weekend to let us visit with Ruby.

love it! Cade has the same fascination with horses too, but only because our town is an old fashioned paniolo (cowboy) town. We had a fair a few weeks ago and a parade/rodeo this weekend with lots of horses! He pet them, but we didn't let him ride cause I don't think he would hold on!
